Read moreEfficient irrigation is an important factor to support crop growth. A uniform water distribution helps the soil to evenly absorb the water, consequently avoiding water run-offs. This greatly promotes even plant growth throughout the field and at the same time can increase the yield and its quality. A fine water application also allows to grow sensitive crops.
Komet Automatic Brake System
-
While waiting to operate, the brake disc of the gun rests on the lower brake pads.
-
While increasing operating pressure, the brake disc is pressed against the upper brake pads, generating a braking force.
-
A higher operating pressure generates a bigger braking force in order to compensate for the stronger rotational force generated by the drive system.

Komet Deflector
This innovative device is capable of distributing the water uniformly, starting from the gun over its entire throw range. The technology and fluid dynamic elements designed into this component let the deflector adapt its operation to all pressure levels and upcoming changes.

The length of the throw determines the area being irrigated. A longer throw increases the area covered by the irrigation with the effect of making the irrigation more cost effective. At the same time a longer throw determines also a reduction of the instantaneous water application rate thus improving the water take-in of the soil.
Komet Fluid Dynamics
While in operation the deflector is designed to minimize the oscillation originating from the interaction with the water stream. This is fundamental in order to obtain a laminar water stream exiting the nozzle generating unrivaled throw values.

Pressure greatly determines the operating cost of an irrigation system: the higher the pressure required to operate it, the higher the operating cost will be. What makes the difference is to find a method to limit the operating pressure requirement without sacrificing the quality of the water distribution uniformity.
Komet Energy System
Due to the use of innovative materials with reduced specific weight and advanced tribological properties combined with the reciprocal calibration of the different components and respective systems, we were able to obtain the optimal performance from the automatic brake and the low inertia drive system. This allows for an efficient operation of the gun in all operating conditions including lower and variable pressure levels.
Komet Balance System
The Komet Balance System is based on the interaction between the self-adjusting brake and deflector. The resulting balanced operating mode allows for an excellent performance at all pressure and flow levels. The interactive balancing between the two elements is continuous and automatic.

Optimized water distribution
It is important that every irrigation system operates reliably in order to avoid yield losses, waste of energy with its associated costs but more than anything to optimize the soil potential. The gun not being continuously monitored, has to operate always at its best without the necessity of adjustments or maintenance.
aThe barrel, made of marine grade aluminum, is designed to maximize throw and optimize distribution. The internal straightening vanes are the result of intense fluid dynamic studies.
bThe drive arm mechanism is made of technical polymers that ensure superior performance and excellent resistance to wear, superior to aluminum. The reduced weight of the parts allows for very good operation even at low pressures.
cThe Automatic Brake System is unique in its function due to the materials used. The internal parts are made of chemically treated stainless steel and inserted into an anodized aluminium housing to increase the resistance to corrosion and wear.
Komet Self Control
With changing operating conditions such as pressure and flow the gun self-adjusts all systems in order to allow always for an operation at best efficiency level.
Komet Design
Reliability is a main concern when designing our products. Each component is developed with the utmost care and the materials are selected to satisfy the requirements of the intended application environment.
Komet Quality
The precision tooling of every component, the strict quality control during every manufacturing step and the final water test of every single gun are our guarantee of a quality control at its best.
It is fundamental that a gun adapts to every situation while keeping excellent performance in all types of irrigation systems and environmental conditions, also extreme ones.
Komet Twin Inverter
Staying within the boundaries of your own field is an important part of efficient irrigation. As well as saving valuable resources that would otherwise be lost to adjacent areas, it also prevents possible disputes with neighboring land owners. In fields that border roads or other farmland, it is customary to first irrigate towards the traveler, and then manually change the irrigation sector. This process can now be automated with the patented Komet Inverter.
AFirst Sector Angle
BSecond Sector Angle
CTimer
DInverter
The patented Komet Twin Inverter is a timing device enabling big-volume guns to switch between two independent irrigation sectors during operation. The gun will irrigate the first sector for a pre-set amount of time, before automatically changing over to the second sector. If a subsequent full-circle operation is required, a full-circle adapter is available.
Komet Motion-Triggered Timer
Standby Function: The time for the first irrigation sector can be set to a max. of 999 minutes. Once the timer is activated it remains in stand-by mode for 36 hours. Within this time frame the operation can be started at any time. The count-down will start as soon as water runs through the big volume gun and the timer is triggered through motion.
Komet Inverter Stop and Go Function: Should the machine stop its operation while the gun still irrigates in the first sector, the timer will stop the countdown and go back to stand-by mode for another 36 hours. Is the machine resuming its work within this time frame, the timer will continue to countdown the remaining time before changing to sector 2.
The Komet Twin Inverter is suitable for the following applications:
-
Application “A”
Irrigation with initial inversion of the big volume gun
-
Application “B”
Irrigation with regular retraction of the big volume gun
-
Application “C”
Irrigation with initial inversion, and automated transition to full-circle operation until the end of the irrigation cycle
Komet Vari-Angle
The trajectory angle can be adjusted without any internal flow restrictions. This provides optimal adaptability to different climatic conditions (including stronger winds), and in scenarios where obstacles such as power lines have to be avoided.
-
The trajectory angle can be manually adjusted between 15° and 45°
-
Strong winds can cause substantial water drift.
-
Lowering the trajectory can reduce water drift.
-
Adjustment of the trajectory in case of power lines.
Komet Dynamic Jet-Breaker
Thanks to the dynamic jet-breaker’s patented operating principle, excess water at the end of the throw is redirected back towards the gun. As an additional advantage, the jet-breaker’s water distribution profile can be adapted to the requirements of solid-set systems.

High Volume Sprinkler Irrigation
Advantages of Big Sprinkler Irrigation
Long distance sprinklers are the perfect choice for irrigation scenarios that require a higher flow rate, wider spray area and / or a high degree of flexibility. For example, high-volume irrigation guns are frequently chosen for the irrigation of open fields (in-cluding pastures) or crops grown on large acreages – such as sugar cane, alfalfa, potatoes, corn or pasture grasses. With the appropriate risers, irrigation cannons can even be used to irrigate tall-growing crops such as vineyards or orchard trees. Due to the large areas covered by large sprinkler guns, the number of sprinklers and pipes required per unit area is lower compared to other irrigation system configurations. Long distance sprinklers are also an excellent solution for fields with irregularly shaped boundaries, or land containing physical obstructions (such as trees, roads or streams), as the water can be directed exactly where it is needed. This means that an irrigation system comprising long distance sprinklers is suitable for fields of almost any layout or shape. Of course, long distance sprinklers can also be added to the end of the pipe of an existing center pivot irrigation system in order to expand the irrigated crop area.
Komet’s big sprinkler line
With its Twin Ultra long distance sprinkler line, Komet is offering a series of next-generation high volume sprinklers, which is distinguished by five major ad-vantages:
- UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION is one of the most important factors in any form of mecha-nized irrigation, as it ensures that the crop grows evenly throughout the entire cultivated area. To achieve a homogenous irrigation pattern, the rotation of the gun must be con-sistent – regardless of the respective pressure, nozzle size, or the terrain on which the irrigation system is positioned. The Komet Twin Ultra models achieve this through an automatic brake system, whose brake force increases and decreases in line with the re-spective pressure and flow conditions – enabling the long distance sprinkler to deliver a completely consistent rotation speed. One of the key elements when it comes to achieving uniform water distribution with large sprinkler guns is the long distance sprinkler’s deflector. For this reason, Komet’s Twin Ultra high volume sprinklers feature a highly engineered deflector, which distributes the water evenly across the gun’s entire throw radius.
- The THROW RADIUS of a long distance sprinkler determines the size of the irrigated area –. The Twin Ultra models are equipped with strategically positioned straightening vanes inside their extra-large barrel. This allows the water to reach the nozzle with the least possible turbulences and pressure losses. The Twin Ultra long distance sprinklers are complemented by a series of ultra-long full-taper nozzles (available with the diameters of 10.0 to 45.00 mm / 0.39 to 1.77”, suitable for flow rates spanning from 5.4 to – 235.0 m3/h / 22 to 1032 gpm and pressure ranges from 1 to 9 bar / 6 to 130 psi), whose sophisti-cated design allows for an extremely smooth reduction of the water stream diameter. The elongated nozzle effectively starts inside the barrel, which enables the water to exit the nozzle as smoothly as possible, and in a perfectly cylindrical shape.
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY is yet another highly sought-after commodity in the world of mechanized irrigation. The operating costs of any mechanized irrigation system are largely determined by the respective inlet pressure. Consequently, finding a way to limit the irrigation system’s operating pressure is among the most obvious ways to increase the irrigation system’s efficiency. The key, of course, is to do so without compromising the irrigation quality. Thanks to their pressure-sensitive deflector and low-inertia drive arm, Komet’s Twin Ultra large sprinkler guns are able to deliver an excellent perfor-mance even at lower pressures.
- RELIABILITY: In agricultural irrigation, there is little margin for error, as even the slightest fall-off in the irrigation system’s performance can have a profound impact on anything from energy costs and water use to soil integrity, crop health and productivity. This is why the reliability of the installed irrigation equipment is of utmost importance. Komet’s long distance sprinkler models are designed and manufactured to the highest quality standards. The Twin Ultra irrigation gun line-up is the result of a five-year devel-opment process, involving worldwide tests in a vast variety of climates and conditions. Thanks to their sophisticated design and high-quality materials (including hard chrome, plated forged brass, stainless steel and hard anodized aluminum – as well as UV-resistant, shock-absorbing polymers), Komet’s Twin Ultra long-distance sprinkler models are among the most efficient, durable and resilient high-volume sprinklers on the market.
- ADAPTABILITY: Another advantage of Komet’s big sprinkler line is its flexibility. This is perfectly exemplified by the Vari Angle system – an optional solution compatible with all Komet Twin Ultra long distance sprinkler models, which makes it possible to manu-ally adjust the long distance sprinkler’s trajectory angle anywhere between 15 and 45 degrees without any flow restrictions – depending on environmental conditions and water application requirements. Another reflection of the long distance sprinkler line’s adapt-ability is the patented Komet Twin Inverter, a time-controlled device with 36-hour stand-by function, which enables Komet big gun sprinklers to irrigate two separate sector angles with one preliminary set-up – where no manual adjustment is required. The com-pany also offers a corresponding adapter, should the big water sprinkler subsequently switch to full-circle operation.
Komet’s high-volume irrigation guns even proved their merit at the 2016 Olympic Games in China: Komet was entrusted with the overall irrigation of the Olympic green areas – including the Olympic Stadium in Beijing. For this prestigious, large-scale turf irrigation project, the company opted for the Komet Twin 101 big sprinkler, encasing the long distance sprinkler in a box. “When it was time to irrigate the turf, the top cover opened, and the sprinkler rose into position. After irrigation, it was retracted, and the box closed automatically,” Komet’s CSO and Head of Marketing, Hugo Drechsel, explains.
